Corrupted Slaad Tadpole

Slaad tadpoles twisted by Allabar’s Far Realm influence into tools of Vecna’s control.

Standard Slaad Tadpoles (For Reference)

• Aberrations native to Limbo, implanted by Red Slaadi via claws
• Normally gestate in the chest cavity for 3 months
• Chew their way out, killing the host, and mature into blue/green slaad
• Tiny, worm-like form

Corrupted Version (Allabar’s Influence)

These tadpoles have been altered by the Far Realm energy bleeding through from Allabar:

• Entry through the eyes — not the chest. Pure Vecna imagery.
• No gestation/burst cycle — instead they establish a permanent psychic link to Allabar
• Vecna can puppet the host at will through this connection
• The host’s eyes change — wrong colour, too many reflections, occasionally moving independently
• The host is still alive but subjugated — a prisoner in their own body
• This is how the fire giants in the hall have been possessed

How They Work

1. Tadpole enters through the eye socket of an incapacitated or willing host
2. It burrows behind the eye and attaches to the optic nerve / brain
3. A psychic tether to Allabar is established
4. Vecna can see through the host, speak through the host, and control the host
5. The host can be recalled through a portal to Allabar at Vecna’s command

What the Party Knows

• Nemesis found slaad tadpoles in a jar at the Hill Giant Stronghold
• They are carrying one — this is a Chekhov’s gun
• They have seen the possessed fire giants but may not yet have connected the tadpoles to the possession
• They have NOT yet seen a tadpole enter through the eyes (this reveal is coming)

The Connection Moment

When Nemesis sees a possessed fire giant up close — or kills one and finds the tadpole behind the eye — they should be able to connect the dots to the jar they’ve been carrying. The realisation: the Hill Giants were experimenting with these. The Far Realm was already here before Vecna’s punishment. The giants were ALREADY compromised.

Implications for Lux

• Lux is in a Fire Giant’s body via Magic Jar
• If a corrupted tadpole enters the giant body’s eyes, Vecna gains a tether
• Vecna could then puppet the body — with Lux’s soul still inside
• Vecna could send the body through a portal to Allabar
• Magic Jar has a 100-foot range limit to the jar — crossing planes severs the link
• Lux would be stranded on Allabar in a body controlled by Vecna, or die
