The Eater of Worlds
A Couatl in a summoned celestial godly form that sacrificed itself to save Toril from Allabar’s destruction.
What Happened
When [[Oochio Voir]] consumed the [[Voidstone]] and opened a portal at the Battle of Fork, [[Allabar, Opener of the Way]] squeezed through from the Far Realm. Allabar began destroying the material plane — sinking the entire continent of [[Hightaeria]] into the ocean. The portal kept growing. Allabar would have destroyed all of Toril (the planet, home of the Sword Coast).
The Eater of Worlds flew from Mount Celestia in divine celestial form and intervened:
- Swallowed Allabar — “like a gecko eating an emu egg”
- Flew into space carrying Allabar inside it
- Spewed Allabar out into orbit around Toril
- Was destroyed in the process — a complete divine sacrifice
This stopped the portal from growing and saved Toril. Allabar was expelled into orbit, becoming the Red Moon — Toril’s third moon (alongside Selune and the Tears of Selune).
Nature
- A Couatl — a celestial serpent, a divine being
- Appeared in a “summoned celestial godly form” — far beyond a normal Couatl’s power
- Came from Mount Celestia — the plane where Lux’s parents also reside
- Its sacrifice was absolute — it ceased to exist
Legacy
- Previously referred to as “The World Eater” in some notes — this was inaccurate. The Eater of Worlds was the saviour, not the destroyer. Allabar was the force that destroyed Hightaeria.
- The Couatl’s sacrifice is one of the most significant divine events in the campaign’s history
- Mount Celestia lost a divine being to save the material plane
