Session 12 Player Notes — The World Eater Falls

These are the players’ own session notes, preserved from the party’s game document. They capture the table’s perspective — what the players saw, did, and said.

Session Notes

The Battlefield

The lich is undead. The thing inside him is an aberration. Reaghl’s battle plans are in motion — the city heads out into the arena to support from the north. From the south towards the fighting school, the Fist militia, the gladiators, and the army of Silva push through a river to reach the arena.

The Unstoppables are fighting the other Colossal. Sister had fallen into the portal with Titus, Madam Ava, and the Emperor, who were all dead. Arawn has the Void Stone in his bag of holding. Sister comes back through the void screaming and panicking.

Arawn has used the golden scale and is currently in the shape of a golden dragon, about 60 feet in the air.

Clifton’s Farewell

Clifton is talking under his breath on the Pegasus: “Meet me in one hour at Mt Celestia and we retake Highpoint tonight and bring Chafe and Prime to justice like water in a flowing stream.” He turns to Elora: “I can’t thank you enough for what you’ve done for me.”

He explains he is leaving to retake Highpoint with the paladins of the opposable force (from the council of stewards meeting). The bodies in the arena have been raised. He tells Elora he has always enjoyed what clerics can do with Raise Dead, and wishes he could stay to watch the show. “The presence of Ilmater is so strong in you. Let this not be the last time we ever meet.”

He lays a hand on her and casts a spell — Aura of Purity. A light imprint of a hand remains on her arm. (Advantage on saving throws for Elora and allies within 30 feet; can’t become diseased; resistance to poison damage.)

Elora hops back on Vol. Clifton bolts in the direction of Highpoint through the rolling storm. Elora gets the feeling he just disappeared too quickly for the speed he should have been moving.

The Portal Grows

Arawn gets a message from Kaial: he feels very vulnerable right now. Arawn pumps a spell through his breath onto a magic circle. It glows like pure sunlight and starts to grow like a molten disc of light.

The black hole in the ground is expanding. Occhio pulls another black rock from his pocket into the portal. It bounces out, hangs 15 feet above the portal, and energy radiates into the stone.

Round 2 — OcchioVoir Engages

Lyra rolls a Nat 20 — 62 damage. She shoots gangsta style with her crossbow. It pierces the side of his head and he teleports away. She hears his voice: “You’ve read from one of my tomes, haven’t you? One of those dexterous ones…” She feels intense pressure in her mind but fights it off.

Kaial runs up to Sister and shakes her: “We need you in the fight! Pull yourself together!” He casts Invisibility on himself and sends a message to Elora: “We could use you right now. Are you coming?” Sister’s limbs and skin start wobbling. As she touches her face, her skin peels off and she oozes into a pile of gelatinous gore. After six seconds the body slurps its way through the sand. Kaial mutters to himself: “Unfortunately, this is not the worst thing I have ever seen.”

The Unstoppables start the crowd clapping. The ranger casts Daylight on Kyle, forming a spotlight. The bird casts Prestidigitation for a light show and fireworks. Kyle starts to croon to “We’re Unstoppable.” The battle stops momentarily as everyone is suspended in disbelief.

He runs up to the Colossal and swings — but misses. Somewhat anticlimactic. The ranger gets smashed by a Colossal and pitched into the side of the other one. She falls to the ground. Arawn muses about the state of her cloak. Reaghl sees a silver wolf embroidered on the inside.

Lux summons a construct (14 + 10 damage). Occhio looks at Lux: “Another one who likes to read for the knowledge. How deep did you read into the books? You can always push deeper.” Lux shakes it off.

Elora flies past on Vol and casts Hold Person on Occhio. “For someone so wise, you failed so terribly.” She feels pressure on her mind — wisdom being pulled. A flash of light, the presence of Ilmater, and he pulls away. “I can feel it. That’s what I’ve been searching for. Someone who spends their time praying to the god of life.” He starts to swell in her direction.

Elora casts Spiritual Weapon against the Void Stone. It hits but the void splashes around the boundary of the pool.

The gladiators are rushing through the river, ripping through the water towards the arena.

Guts rushes the constructs, hitting on his first strike but missing the next two. Reaghl: “Fucking Guts.” As Guts starts to fall, two other Gutses grab him and haul him back. One collapses into mechanical waste. 6 Gutses remaining.

Reaghl hits the Colossal with a psionic strike — Nat 20!

Guts hears a voice taunting him: “I’ve seen Barbarians like you. You fucking suck.” Guts resists the mind pull. “I’ll try to think of something wittier next time.”

The Colossal hits Guts for 9 damage. Two more Gutses lose their lives. Down to 4. The army breaks through the river and begins attacking the Colossal.

Lux understands the portal is not Shadowfell magic like in Silverton. This seems more far realm. We do not want to go into the portal. Where the portal meets the ring of light, they meld like water, but the portal is growing.

Round 3 — The Light Expands

Arawn as the golden dragon pumps his breath spell over the golden circle. Light imbued with magic expands in all directions. The lich looks at Arawn: “It looks like there is nothing here for me today.”

Lyra strikes the lich for 35 damage. The lich flies towards Elora. Lyra reaches out to Reeny, who tells her she is in a cart that feels like it has gone over water. Lyra loses her bonus dexterity (-2) after Occhio Voir invades her mind.

The military has arrived. The Hydra busts through the arena wall, panicked. It lashes out, flees the arena, and crushes people on the way out. The army trickles in.

Kaial, shield up, has picked up the crystal ball. He sheds a tear for Sister, then runs up the arena screaming commands to the army: attack the undead, show caution to the black portal that is swallowing everything in its path. “Stand in the light.”

The Unstoppables are into the second verse. The cleric is crying at the death of their ranger. The sorcerer blasts a Healing Word and drifts to the ground, but nothing seems to change.

The lich’s tentacles reach towards Elora. He casts Blight — 21 necrotic damage. He casts Psychic Whisper, asking Elora to make a choice: he is either going to get the Void Stone today, or he will take her life. Incomprehensible whispers fill her mind, crushing, but she feels the presence of Ilmater and stands firm. She shoos it away but feels she made a lucky escape. “If wisdom is your shield, I will take it away” — he rips two wisdom points from her.

The doming action continues between the portal and the circle of light.

Lux moves into the dome of light (20 feet high). He saves against a hypnotic charm from Azir. Lux casts Scorching Ray, completely burning one of the tentacles off the lich’s body.

Divine Intervention

Elora casts Channel Divinity — Divine Intervention. She launches herself towards the lich, calling on Ilmater. Even though he is the same height in the air, she feels as though she is falling towards him, drawn to him. Elora sends a voiceless call, a plea that transcends words.

Light streams in a bolt from the sky. The golden circle bursts into the heavens. All the undead are completely turned back to living people. Cries fill the arena as people touch their bodies, disbelieving that they are real.

Occhio Voir looks into her eyes and tries to reach into her mind. It is reversed. The lich screams, losing its wisdom. The beak in its body extends with its teeth out, reaching for Elora, screaming into the sky. His skin starts to burn inside the light.

Round 4 — The Dragon Drives Down

Arawn uses a legendary action to move down to Guts and Reaghl, wings out. Both jump onto his back (one of the Gutses slips off). The black portal expands — the entire arena wall crumbles into it.

Reaghl jumps on. Guts throws the grappling hook onto Arawn’s talon and pulls himself on. At the base of the Colossal, Silva falls into the portal. The titan that the Unstoppables are on — Penny is dragging the ranger across the road to get away. The entire titan falls with all the Unstoppables. Kyle throws them, trying to get them clear: “See how invincible I am!” and falls into the portal. Little goblin girl is in the abyss. Kyle and Kake the bird man are flying. Penny and the ranger are safe. Lux casts Feather Fall on all the falling Unstoppables. The lich tries to lash at Elora again but fails.

Arawn cruises up beside Elora on Vol and launches fire breath at Occhio Voir. The aberration takes 63 damage. 31 damage to the lich. Arawn takes 52 damage (Elora absorbs 26). The lich searches for something in Arawn’s mind. Tentacles penetrate into the dragon’s chest.

Guts and Reaghl were holding actions. Reaghl jumps off the dragon onto the tentacles of the lich to smash at the beak. He feels the psionic energy stronger than ever. He strikes the aberration — 12 damage.

The aberration Misty Steps 60 feet away above Arawn, holding the Void Stone — found in the bag of holding inside Arawn. He swallows the Void Stone.

Elora feels absolute destruction. Kyle calls out that the lich is saying something about ascension and they need to stop him. The lich’s voice in her mind: “The final piece to the puzzle…” Elora repels him — Nat 20!

The portal expands. The river starts pouring in. Reaghl (who was holding onto the aberration) is falling through the air. Arawn launches down to catch him.

Lyra tries to grapple with her web. The lich reaches into her mind — she loses two more dexterity.

Kaial runs into the magic circle, feels helpless, and holds his action.

Vol grapples the lich and drags him down 30 feet, 120 feet above the ground. The serpent in the air has been captured in the cylinder of light — there is now an enormous Coatl writhing through the sky.

Lux hits with Scorching Ray: 13 + 12 + 14 + 17 + 13 = 69 damage.

Elora casts Sacred Flame for 41 damage (using saved damage from earlier) plus Spiritual Weapon for 10. The beak screams and his attention fixes on Elora. The ray of light pierces his face. Skin melts off, revealing the skull of half his face.

Guts swings his greatsword, stabbing straight into the beak — 8 damage. As Reaghl prepares to launch from Arawn’s back, an ethereal Silva appears beside him: “Let’s do this, brother.” He strikes twice — 11 + 8 = 19 damage, plus 14 psionic damage.

The lich strikes at Elora’s mind again. She repels him — Nat 20! She feels his frustration at being unable to access the link to Ilmater, the last thing he needs for his ritual.

Arawn lashes out with his dragon tail — 13 damage.

Round 5 — Death of a Lich

Arawn strikes with claws (15 + 18 damage) and bites the lich, grappling him into submission. The dragon drives down towards the ground.

As they plummet, the lich casts Finger of Death at Elora. She uses Kelemvor’s Bane to save — takes half damage (26 necrotic). Elora holds 28 damage.

The dragon drives the lich into the ground. Kaial stands underneath, holding his sword aloft: “A little to the left!” 57 damage to everyone (Elora holds 28). Reaghl uses Protective Field to reduce damage by 1d8 minus 2.

As Elora resists Occhio Voir one last time, he lays motionless on the ground. They hack into him. The dragon pulls the Void Stone from his body. Reaghl controls the stone, moving it into the bag of holding.

Arawn’s black dragon scale armour now has a golden shimmer on the edges, and a single golden dragon scale on the breastplate.

Lyra floats down onto the ground amidst the gore.

Aftermath — The Portal Remains

The tension lifts, but the black portal is still growing. Lux knows all wizards have a contingency. There is no sense of undead, but Kaial detects aberration. A dark purple rock flies out like a seeking arrow, trying to reach the body, bashing against the golden cylinder of light. Tendrils reach from the portal. Nothing gets through.

Penny is given 300GP of silver and casts Revivify on Arielle.

Lux gazes into the mirror. It shows him Occhio’s origin: when he goes into the far realm and is corrupted by the Albadar — a planet created by the primordials. A young boy becomes a wizard who wants to learn but is corrupted. He arrived at the far realm as a lich and had a parasite injected in him to find a way to bring Albadar back to the material realm. The planet is trying to come through the portal. He has done this over and over. If he figures out a way to reverse death, he may be able to stop the planet — by becoming the god of life, maybe he can stop this.

The Coatl Devours the World

Elora looks up at Mount Celestia in the sky. She kneels in front of Occhio Voir’s body, takes her blade, and cuts the backs of both forearms. She wraps her hands in her red prayer beads, letting the blood drop onto the body. She prays to Ilmater to end the void.

The Coatl floats down and consumes the body. He tells them: “I can fix this, but it will take time. I suggest you get as far away from here as you can.” He does a big grin, flies off, and grows larger in the sky.

Everyone starts running. Felix runs up to Reaghl: “My brother, what’s going on? It’s time to get out of here!”

“We are free, brother. Today is the day we have been working towards for the last year.”

“We should get Silva and go.”

“Silva has passed out of our sight.”

The people chant: “Nemesis, Nemesis, Nemesis!”

Arawn transforms back into the dragon. He hears the dragon’s voice: “Ah, it looks like the job is not done.”

Escape from Forks

Danny uses the sand skiffs to help transport the crowds. Kaial stands at the end of the crowd with his arms out: “I’d hate to be on that side of the line.” He dashes off on the Camasus to tell Danny the sand-skiff guy how to help. Kaial scoops up “Lady Goop” (Sister’s remains) in a box before they leave.

They take off towards the castle. The stronghold is heavily guarded with military, but the place is starting to desert. Flying over the castle courtyard — it is a bloodbath. Bodies stabbed and bleeding out. There is a little girl in the top tower, crouching and hiding on sneak patrol, taking out guards, stabbing them. She is like a Lyra protegee. Lyra is having a proud grandma moment.

Reeny: “Lyra, you’ll be so proud of me. I’m killing everything!”

Reeny climbs up the tower. Arawn circles down to collect her, breathing fire on enemies before flying off. Lyra tells Reeny she did a good job. Reeny circles her arm in Lyra’s, lays her head on her shoulder, and falls asleep.

They swing past Danny on the way out. He collects his sword from Mr Dazzlebelt: “This isn’t a full sword, but it’s the materials you’ll need.” He hands Danny an ingot of iron extracted from the blood of a purple worm. “I pray for you that you’ll use this wisely.” Danny heads towards Mistwach to extract his family as the portal moves that way.

The World Changes

Flying over the earth, they see half of Forks collapsing under the portal. Over a couple of days they head back to Highpoint. Multiple messages come from Clifton the Righteous. Reeny starts talking about whether she should run the throne.

As the portal grows, Silverton disappears. It reaches the forest outside Highpoint and south to the desert, and the world is ascending out of the portal.

The Coatl turns to face the earth and descends. It begins to devour the planet coming through the portal — like a snake eating an egg. The planet attacks back, but the Coatl absorbs the poison and fights against it. The Coatl consumes the planet, pulls it out of the portal, and the entire lands fill with water. The ocean fills the void and erases all trace of Jarrod from the D&D world. The Coatl flies up to the sky and regurgitates the planet, forming it into a moon.

The New World Order

Highpoint is still there, as is the forest. Lots of discussion about a coronation for Reeny. Lux is called into Prime Gerald’s office. He has a project — an arrangement with Mt Celestia to move the key parts of the continent to another continent. They want to move Highpoint. Azir’s tower seems to have moved. People from other planes arrive to discuss the project.

But first: a coronation.

Reeny mentions the youth potion that his father’s clerics were searching for for 90 years.

Silva is gone, but appears each night in Reaghl’s dreams to train with him.

Elora has a lot to think about. Ilmater now reaches to speak to her, coming in her dreams. He asks for her thoughts, provides training and insight.
