Create a world
A world is the container for everything – your setting, your lore, your campaigns. Sign in and click Worlds in the sidebar, then New World. Give it a name and a description.
A world can hold multiple campaigns. Think of the world as the setting (Middle-earth, Forgotten Realms, your homebrew) and campaigns as individual game series within it.
Start a campaign
From your world’s page, create a campaign. This is where the game lives – sessions, characters, inventory, lore, and rules all belong to a campaign.
Choose a name and set a description. You can attach a rules template later to give the campaign a game system (D&D 5e, Pathfinder, or your own).
Invite players
Open your campaign and go to the Manage tab. You can invite players two ways:
- By handle or email – type their TxTavern handle or email address. They’ll see the invite on their home page.
- By link – generate a shareable invite link. Anyone with the link can join.
Players see the campaign’s lore library, session schedule, and their character sheets. DM-only content stays private.
Create articles
Articles are the core content unit. An NPC, a location, a magic item, a piece of lore – they’re all articles with different kinds. Create them from the Articles section in the sidebar.
Each article has: - A kind (NPC, location, item, spell, lore, encounter, creature, organisation, and more) - Tags for filtering and grouping - A status (canon, draft, idea, retired) - Rich text content with formatting
Articles can be hierarchical – set a parent to create nested structures (a city containing districts containing buildings).
